What do you want to be When You Grow Up? Career Talk

What do you want to be when you grow up?

This question is probably the most asked question in the world, for kids at least. I use to get asked this question all the time and as a child, my answer was always ‘a lawyer’.

As an adult, the question is still asked for some reason even though you as well as myself probably think ‘eh well I’m grown up’ but do you know the answer? Truth is I don’t.

I am in graduate school and I do not know what career path I would like to take. I am almost at the end of my degree and this question has been on my mind a lot: What career do you intend to pursue Shanice? What is the next step?

Here are My Thoughts…

Complete the Task at Hand

The next step is completing the task at hand. That task is my degree. I did my BSc in Psychology and then due to financial reasons, I am pursuing my MSC in Criminology and Criminal Justice instead of Clinical Psychology (which I love). Despite this, My first priority needs to be to complete my degree because if the degree is not completed then chances are the career won’t get started anyway.

Don’t over think Just Make a List

Thinking about a career path will not get me one. In the Midst of completing my degree, I’ve decided to make a list. I will make a list of Jobs that fit my qualifications then I will work my way around it adding what I like and removing what I don’t. On this list, I will most definitely try to find jobs that will require me to use skills from my first and second degree.

You see although I stumbled upon these two areas, I love them very much and I firmly believe that any career within those two disciplines will be extremely satisfying.

Do What you love and you will never work a day in your life

Create a Back-up

In the event that the career paths on the list seem to be taking too long to take flight, I always have my blog. HAHA. My blog is nowhere near being a full-time job but it has really been teaching me a lot of skills that can be used to make some sort of income while I career search. Since blogging, I have added a few skills to my resume. Perhaps I will share them in another blog post.

Get Involved

I’ve decided to get involved. It’s very difficult to choose a career that you know nothing about. So, I will be volunteering at a few places near my home. It’s like a ‘taste then buy’ lol. I have volunteered previously in my home country but being that I am in a new country I will be volunteering where I am. This will be a great way to get recommendations later on. Wish me Luck.

Take it one day at a time

I’ve decided that stress is a bit too much for me to handle. The less stress I have in my life the better. Hence, I am taking things one day at a time (Slow and Steady) while believing wholeheartedly that God will place the door for me to enter.

The End

That’s it for my Career Chat. I hope that if you too are having trouble answering the “what you want to be when you grow up’ question, you find some help in these my thoughts/actions.

I curious to know if you don’t mind sharing; how did you or how are you choose(ing) a career?

Thank you for Reading. Love, Light and Peace.
