February is love month. Let’s show some love to strong women who have paved the way for women within the film industry.
Did you celebrate Valentine’s? Well regardless of your beliefs and current relationship status, good movies always come in handy.
Here are 3 Classic Movies that you should watch
Their Eyes Were Watching God (2005)
Their Eyes Were Watching God (2005) is one of my favorite movies. It’s set in 1920’s America and it describes the love life of Janie Starks played by the great Halle Berry. Janie is a young African-American woman who is cheerful and free-spirited. She has her own ideas about life and love and she never stops searching or gives up. Janie doesn’t abide by ‘social’ standards and ends up in 3 very different marriages with very different men within her time. {Find out why}. The movie is romantic, emotional, historical and down to earth!
The Tourist (2010)
Do you love Angelina Jolie? I hope the answer is YES. The Tourist (2010) is perfect for Valentines because it showcases an impromptu love affair by two beautiful people. The movie has beautiful scenery, it is sent in Europe and the cat and mouse game that is played by the two explores all Europe has to offer. This movie is the perfect mix of action and romance. It also shows that women are strong and powerful and we do not have to subscribe to societal roles.
Thelma and Lousie (1991)
Thelma and Lousie (1991) is one of the movies that paved the way for women in the film industry. Before this movie, women were only given sexist and traditional roles such as housewives and ‘bimbos‘. Women were used only for house roles and sexually appealing roles. Howver, Thelma and Lousie Changed all of that. They said no more. The Movie Themla and Lousie is a crime/drama film. Thelma is a housewife and her friend Lousie is an independent woman who works as a waitress. As the movies go on Thelma breaks away from being the housewife to becoming a rebel! She and Lousie rebel against patriarchy and end up being wanted by the police. The movie is a thrilling car chase of two strong, powerful non-conformist women.
