My unpopular opinion on the Debate Dreadlocks Vs Locs

    November 9, 2021 /

Dreadlocks vs locs: what’s the difference? The question of locs vs dreadlocks is one that many people seem to be asking these days. Personally, I think it’s the new age of social media that sprouts this question. In this brief article, we will dive in and discuss if there is a difference between dreadlocks vs locs or is it just a matter of referencing the same hairstyle. Before we continue, let me express that this article is an opinion piece. While I will try to provide facts wherever necessary, the bulk of this information will be my opinion. Dreadlocks vs Locs In my opinion, there is no difference between saying…

6 Methods of Starting Locs- How to and Loc Tips

    May 28, 2020 /

Methods of starting locs. Starting locs is an important and memorable moment for many people but it can also cause concern and worry. If you are considering locs, you may know that there are many methods to choose from and each has its advantages and disadvantages.  When you first decide to start locs, you must think of what is most important to you or your personality type. Are you more free-spirited, then perhaps freeform locs may be for you, are you more reserved and high maintenance, then perhaps sisterlocks, small or medium size locs may be better for you. Apart from that, important things to consider are (1) the length…

Best Homemade and Store-bought Products for Retwisting Locs

    May 7, 2020 /

When it comes to retwisting locs, people are often troubled by what products they can use. There are many homemade and store-bought products for retwisting locs and we will discuss some. I often tell my friends with locs, that products do not loc hair. Your hair locs as a natural process and so your focus does not need to be centered on products. Using products (natural or otherwise) in your locs is completely optional.  So then, what is the purpose of using products? Well, the purpose of using products to retwist your locs is simply for: Preference– some may want a slick, ‘layed’ look, Shine– products help to add shine…

How to make Flaxseed Gel to Retwist Locs

    May 5, 2020 /

Flaxseeds have been around for ages and they make the perfect hair product for loose naturals as well as people with locs. So, why not learn how to make flaxseed gel to retwist locs.  When looking to retwist locs, there are many products that you can use to add shine and hold to your hair. Now, keep in mind that products do not loc your hair. Your hair locs as a natural process. If you leave your hair uncombed it will inevitably knot together, forming what we call dreadlocks, locs, dreads, or whichever name you prefer.  Since restarting my locs, I have been using natural products only. Everything I use…

5 Protective Styles Over Locs that anyone can do.

    April 2, 2020 /

There are many protective styles over locs that you can do at home. In this post, I will share a few of them with you.  A protective style, is a style that is done in order to prevent manipulation to your natural hair. The objective of a protective style, is to protect your hair which means that whichever style you choose needs to do that. And only that. Protect your hair! With locs, you technically do not need to do a protective style over locs, because locs in it self is sorta a protective style. However, I understand the need to switch things up and I have done many many protective…

How to Start Locs with Two Strand Twists – Two-strand twist dreadlocks

    October 3, 2019 /

Two strand twists locs are fun and often the choice for thick locs. Starting Locs with two-strand twist is the traditional way of achieving locs as a hairstyle. Growing up, I saw many people starting their locs with two stand twists. However, for my first set of locs, I decided to start them with finger coils and I was pleased with that decision so I used the same method to restart my locs after cutting the first set.  With two stand twists locs, your locs will generally form thicker than if you start them with finger coils.
